Crime statistics to be published next week…hopefully says DCP

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hilroy Brandy
By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE crime statistics for 2016 could be released as early as next week, a senior member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has informed SKNVibes.

During his first lecture for the year, held on January 9, Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley told the media that the statistics would be released to the public “shortly”.

More than a month later however, and the statistics still have not been released.

SKNVibes made attempts to speak with Commissioner Queeley on Wednesday (Feb. 15) but he said this publication should speak with his Deputy, Hilroy Brandy.

Asked of the 2016 crime statistics, the Deputy Commissioner informed that that information was scheduled to be released this week. However it was preferred that the release not coincide with the government’s week of activities commemorating the Team Unity Administration’s second year in office.

He said the release date was pushed back and it is hoped that it would take place during the upcoming week.

“So I am hoping by next week we will be able to give those crime statistics.”

During his lecture, Commissioner Queeley did indicate that 2016 was a challenging year for the police with the most troubling areas being the increase in break-ins, violent crimes and homicides.

He noted however, that there was a slight increase in the detection rate in 2016 in comparison with that of 2015.
