BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IT was not the result that the St. Kitts and Nevis Under-20 football team was hoping for in their opening game in the CONCACAF final round, being defeated 5-1 by Haiti.

Playing in bright sunshine at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Ayma in Costa Rica yesterday (Feb. 18), the Sugar Boys went behind early when Jimmy-Shammar Sanon netted in the 5th minute of the game.

The lead was then doubled in the 24th minute through a Brian Chevreuil strike, to put his French unit ahead at half time.

But three minutes into the second period, Haiti found the back of the net again, with Alessandro Campoy making 3-nil.

Javier Sutton pulled one back for St. Kitts-Nevis in the 58th minute, as Jonel Desiree in the 86th and Ronando Damus in the 90+4 minute added to the SKN Team’s misery, adding two goals to Haiti’s count.

In the second of the double-header day, Panama, the last team make it in the competition, edged the United States of America 1-0 at the same venue.

The Sugar Boys now move to the Estadio Nacional, San Jose on the February 21, where they take on Panama in a must-win encounter, before closing out the opening round against the United States on February 24.
