Youth to learn football at free Grassroots training

By: (FTFC), Press Release

Basseterre, St.Kitts, February 17th 2017 (FTFC): Founded on the basic principle of providing an introduction and proper skills-training in the game of football, the Federation will see the unofficial opening of First Touch Football Club (FTFC).

On Saturday 4th March 2017, FTFC will host a soft launch with a free Grassroots training session at the St. Peter’s Playing Field from 9:30 a.m.  Serving as its introduction to the community, and Federation at large, the training session will cater to children from the ages of three to five.

“First Touch’s motto is ‘It begins with the first touch’ so we are launching with the youngest age category the Academy will be working with,” says 22 year old Founder Jaheida Lewis.

“When I brainstormed with my team on ways we could launch First Touch, I knew I wanted to do something different other than a simple press event. So we eventually came up with the idea of a football festival to serve as the inaugural launch of the Academy.

“However, we had a few setbacks and decided to start small with a few free training sessions to garner and gauge interest for the different age groups before executing the football festival,” Lewis goes on to explain.

Lewis, who has been in the football arena for 12 years and currently plays for the Winner’s Circle Newtown Women’s Football Club, underwent studies in football coaching and obtained her Class D license.

“During the week I train with Newtown FC and on weekends I coach children at the Grassroots Academy.

“Under the SKNFA I have trained children ages 4 to 16, and older, and was inspired by this experience, especially when it’s their first time being introduced to the game,” explains Lewis.  “The goal of First Touch is to impart the knowledge and skills of the game from an early age, including the discipline required to succeed on a professional level whether locally, regionally or internationally while infusing fun.”

Affectionately known as “Pashun” (pronounced passion), Lewis hopes to live up to her name as she builds what has been a dream for as long as she can remember.

Once the series of free training is completed and assessed, FTFC will open its doors to its first set of trainees and a date for the First Touch Football Festival will be set.  Lewis aims for Summer 2017.

Interested parents/guardians can register their children online: http://bit.ly/2lojnm6 or call (869) 767-9630 for more information. Updates on the Academy can also be found on Facebook by searching “First Touch Football Club”.

First Touch Football Club’s mission is to provide opportunities for young players to develop their highest potential by building each player’s first touch, mentally and physically. FTFC strives to maintain an environment that embodies the core values of integrity, leadership, perseverance, respect and teamwork while enhancing self- esteem, promoting self-confidence and cultivating a lifelong passion for the game of football.
