BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Technical Center being developed by the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) - under the FIFA Gold Project - is expected to be completed shortly, according to the contractor, Lennox Warner.
The project - being constructed in St. Peter's - is undertaken by Warner Construction, and is said to be 80% completed, with the contracting firm eyeing the end of March for full completion.
This announcement was made to reporters, President of CONCACAF and officials of the SKNFA, who recently visited the site.
Started back in 2015, the project was being carried out in two phases with the contracting firm now on the second portion.
Warner told reporters that they have had some small setbacks which are directly linked to the flow of cash coming from FIFA’s office in Zurich.
He pointed out however, that everything else is within reach as they have been working assiduously, despite magnitude of the project.
“The project is a very large project. The management of the finance is extremely prudent...If you’re to look at the size of the project, each floor is about 20,000 square foot.
“For each phase, it carries about US$500,000 which is about EC$1.2M. So it is a lot of contribution and commitment from the local end, rather than dollars and cents.”
When the project is completed, it would house a training facility, a conference room, dining room and training pitches among other amenities.
Warner said currently, with the project nearing completion, “One of the challenges left for the local association is the utilities, which is of a very expensive nature.”
Warner indicated that with the contribution for the three entities involved, they have all been working to take the football to another level.
