 Powell to return in West Indies colours

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER laying down a solid performance during the West Indies Super50 tournament, Nevisian Kieran Powell has been recalled to the regional team’s setup for the upcoming limited overs series against England.

    Powell, who captained the Leeward Islands team to the semifinals of the competition, scored 513 runs in nine matches at an average of 64.12

    Ending the competition as the top runs scorer, he blasted three centuries and two fifties with the highest score being 135.

    The series against the English is set to get underway on Thursday (Feb. 23) with a practice match against the Vice Chancellor’s XI at Warner Park.

    The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) yesterday (Feb. 20) announced the lineup for the West Indies team along with the President’s XI for the practice match.

    The West Indies squad is led by Jason Holder (Captain), Devendra Bishoo, Carlos Brathwaite, Kraigg Brathwaite, Jonathan Carter, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Kieran Powell, Rovman Powell.

    Captained by Jahmar Hamilton, the WICB President’s XI Squad consists of: Sunil Ambris, Ronsford Beaton, Rahkeem Cornwall, Montcin Hodge, Kyle Hope, Damion Jacobs, Reynard Leveridge, Kyle Mayers, Andre McCarthy, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach.

    The series would see the matches being played in Barbados and Antigua and Barbuda.

    Saturday, February 25: Vice Chancellor’s XI vs England – Warner Park

    Monday, February 27: WICB President’s XI vs England – Warner Park

    Friday, March 3: 2nd ODI – Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground Stadium

    Sunday, March 5:  2nd ODI – Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground Stadium

    Thursday, March 9: 3rd ODI – Kensington Oval
