Track and Field Officials participate in various training sessions Date

By: SKNAA, Press Release

22nd February, 2017 -- Two (2) of the Federation’s experienced Photo Finish Operators are now better equipped with advanced information following their successful participation in a 2-days Electronic Time Keeping Seminar that was held in in San Juan, Puerto Rico, over the period February 16th to 18th, 2017.

Following an invitation by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Regional Development Centre, Mr Telbert Pyke of St Kitts and Mr Garfield Virgo of Nevis were selected by the SKNAAA to attend this vital Electronic Timing certification course.  Both Mr Pyke and Mr Virgo have been providing voluntary timing services to the SKNAAA and the Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA) respectively for a number of years and with the construction of a new Mondo Track on the Island of Nevis, this additional training is very much welcomed. The attendance of these two (2) Track and Field volunteers on this training course follows a number of other training opportunities that the SKNAAA has exposed its loyal and dedicated volunteers to over the last four (4) months.

Mr Corneil Williams, the SKNAAA’s Games Secretary, attended an IAAF Sports Marketing Seminar over the period October 28th to 30th 2016. The Seminar was designed to help Athletics Federations to be better organized in their event’s marketing procedures including attracting sponsors and generating funding.

Additionally, over the period December 5th to 7th, the IAAF through its Regional Development Centre hosted members of the NACAC region in El Salvador for a Road Measurement Seminar. Mr Delroy Jeffers attended the Seminar on behalf of the SKNAAA.

The preparation and training  of athletes from the grassroots to the elite level has been bolstered with the addition of seventeen (17) Level 1 coaches following their successful participation in the Olympic Solidarity sponsored IAAF Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS) Level 1 Course on December 2nd to December 13th, 2016. The rigorous 12-days course was conducted by IAAF Lecturers: Mr Craig Connor and Ms Roatter Johnson.

The SKNAAA is confident that information garnered from the various training seminars and courses would be disseminated amongst other coaches’ officials and administrators, who in turn would utilize the information received to better develop the sport of Athletics/Track and Field in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
