Teams awaiting date for SKNABA finals

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - NO official dates have been identified for the staging of the finals of the A Division of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Basketball Association’s (SKNABA) league.

Officials at the Sandy Point PRIDE Organization, which has been at the center of a controversy with the Association, confirmed that they have not received any notification from the body on when the best-of-three finals would be played against the Achievers Wolf Pack.

That statement comes several weeks after the PRIDE team won a court case against the SKNABA, after they were told that they were to replay their semi-finals - despite winning 2-0.

The PRIDE official, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that the team has not gotten any documentation and because of that, the finals would not be played anytime soon.

“The court had indicated that we must be given two weeks’ notice for the playing of the games, so it's not anytime soon,” the official said.

An official at the Basketball Association confirmed that they have not set a date for the playing of the finals, but that could be done soon.

The SKNABA has been embroiled in controversy for a number of months after several PRIDE players were arbitrarily suspended for their role in running onto the court during the staging of a junior league game.

According to information received by SKNVibes Sports, PRIDE players were seated in the stands when a fight broke out between the Sandy Point Falcons and another team.

Four players were alleged to have stepped in to part the brawl but were later suspended in controversial fashion.

That saw the players appealing the decision, resulting in the matter reaching the court after it was said that the appeals hearing had taken place in the absence of the appellants.
