National Carnival Queen Pageant 2008-2009 Contestant # 6 Donella Dias

The quintessence of Ms. Donella Dias is captured in the unique blend of her charisma, intelligence, poise and wit. Born on May 20th 1984 to Daniel O’Garro and Shirley Dias, this Kittitian beauty has cherished her family life, having had the pleasure of growing up in a large family, with seven (7) brothers and six (6) sisters.

Donella’s passion for academic excellence was rewarded when she became the recipient of the TDC's Warren Tyson Memorial Scholarship during her years at the Verchild’s High School and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.  For Donella, this programme provided valuable leadership development, mentorship and work experience which propelled her to attain a Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Coupled with her family life and school experiences, Donella discovered an appreciation for dance, reading and music.  If you ever get the opportunity to meet her, you will be captivated by her contagious laughter and inimitable sense of fashion.

With an unrelenting fervor for life, Donella’s love for various genres of music manifested into her first employment opportunity as a radio personality.

This introduction to the exciting world of Communications and Journalism, positioned her to accept her current role as Head of the Content Department for SKNVibes (
www.sknvibes.com), an entertainment and news website.

Donella is gravely concerned about the escalating level of gang violence within our society.  Through her participation in this year’s National Carnival Queen Pageant, she wishes to further raise awareness of this issue by becoming an advocate for the prevention of gang activity.

Consequently, with her years of experience in the Media Industry, Donella has taken aim on becoming professionally certified within this field.  She also hopes to one day own a radio station.  As Donella has her sights elevated on achieving her goals, she has adopted the viewpoint that negativity is not an option, and has instead chosen to apply her personal motto: Discipline in Everything.
