ROAD TOWN, Tortola, - IN 2004 James Morgan, popularly known as Jamesy P, was looking for ‘some nookie’, but today he is looking for much more.

He is currently working on a new material and has a new single titled ‘Ants in the sugar pan’.

“This tune going on hard and it will take Vinci Mas by storm,” he said while boasting about his new release.

Morgan was born in St. Vincent on May 18, 1970 but migrated to the British Virgin Islands in 1991 where he currently resides.

It was in a barber shop where he worked as a barber and met Daddy Juicy and Pinchy P, the two persons he credits for starting his singing career.

Although he started performing in 1993, it was not until he sang ‘See Meh Trial’ that people began noticing him.

The song highlighted the problems he faced at home because his girlfriend spent so much time watching soap operas.

During an interview with SKNVibes, Morgan, who was full of energy and excitement, outlined a number of things he has planned for 2009.

Morgan said that he plans to travel to St. Vincent later this month for the carnival celebration and is very excited about it.

He said that he knows it would be a good one by just listening to the programme line up and some of the songs he has been hearing from artistes over there.

Morgan said he is currently in studios adding finishing touches to his new album, which he hopes to be released very soon.

“I have two names in mind for the album, but I’m really leaning towards ‘Jamesy P - A Musical Stimulus’ because the songs that are on it will stimulate a whole lot of different feelings that will tickle your brain cells to do various things,” he said.

‘Ants in you sugar pan’ is described as one of his bombshell tunes he has dropped so far and it is very witty.

“There is also one called ‘Rogaltic’ which was written by myself and Marlon Davis,” he said.

He defines it as the opposite of ‘Romantic’, and said that a man cannot be romantic with M.A.N in the spelling, hence ‘Rogaltic’.

“People would not even be able to dance to this song, they would just have to stand up and listen the lyrics cause it mad,” he said.

Another well-talked about track is ‘Proud Patriot’ which is said to ‘big up’ all the people who are proud of where they come from but still remember we are one Caribbean.

With this album, Morgan said he is thinking past the dictionary, while adding that the self-written album would be his fourth and would feature at least 10 to 15 songs.

The album also features collaborations with Sean Caruth out of Trinidad and Kirk Adams of Tortola, whom he says has a great voice.

For the recently concluded Trinidad Carnival, Morgan released a song titled ‘Soca Daggering’ which he said has been a hit.

“Despite the recent ban in Jamaica on all songs containing the word daggering, the song has still been blowing up around the region,” he said.

A softer side of the witty soca man came when SKNVibes asked him about future plans on visiting St. Kitts.

He last performed on the island as a guest artiste for the Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant in 2006.

“When I hear of St. Kitts, a dark feeling comes to mind. After I had finished performing and went back stage with my wife and two other persons, a young man grabbed my wife’s buttocks and I felt very disrespected.

“At that moment, I felt like I could die for a cause. That night I cried because I was real pissed off because I could not do anything about it as we did not know who did it. I don’t hate St. Kitts! I could never say that because I met some real nice people there and I had my honeymoon there. My wife and I stayed at the Marriott and, out of all the hotels I have ever been to, that was my best,” he said.

“So, I would never say I hate the island because of one person. But every time I hear the word St. Kitts it brings back memories. The youths need to check themselves and forget about violence and those negative things,” he added.

The Vincentian artiste said he would be travelling to Atlanta on May 21 for a show then he would return to Tortola on the following day for another performance.

Morgan informed that following the St. Vincent Carnival he would travel to Barbados for ‘Soca on the hill’.

Morgan can be reached for bookings at 1-404-414-6785 or 1-784-593-9099 or by emailing him at nookiejames@gmail.com.

In concluding the interview, Morgan said he would like to “big up” all his fans who embrace what he does and that the sky is the limit to all artistes.

“So just keep on doing what you are doing,” he said.
