San Jose, Costa Rica, 25 January 2022 (IICA) -- “Voices of the Americas” is the first audiovisual exhibition of the musical tribute to those who work every day to put food on all of our tables; and it now available on AgroArt, the Virtual Museum of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
The showing will allow visitors to see and listen to the first 25 of the 90 songs in an initiative that in 2020 brought together leading names from the popular music scene in the Americas, who voluntarily and free of cost participated in the hemispheric initiative.
The tribute sought to recognize and thank those whose efforts guaranteed the production, transportation, sale and supply of food throughout the countries of the Americas, during the most difficult moments of the Covid-19 pandemic, prior to the development of the vaccines against the coronavirus.
The Popular Music Tribute showcases the wealth of music and cultural diversity of the region in all its dimensions, with representatives from 20 countries.
Among the star performers in this first audiovisual exhibit at AgroArt are Lila Downs, from Mexico; Xiomara Fortuna, from the Dominican Republic; Francisco Páez, from Guatemala; Miguel Ángel Bonilla, from Honduras; Erika Ender, from Panama; Los Kjarkas, from Bolivia; Gilberto Gil and Roberta Sá, from Brazil; León Gieco and Teresa Parodi, from Argentina and Guadalupe Urbina, from Costa Rica.
IICA spearheaded the tribute by the popular artistes as a means of raising political and social awareness about those who kept and continue to keep the agroindustrial chain functioning and about the farmers, whose efforts ensured and continue to ensure the food supply.
Thus, “Voices of the Americas”, through the generous participation of these renowned artistes, is an expression of gratitude and applause for those who work on the land, but often fail to receive the social recognition that they deserve.
The Popular Music Tribute for agrifood chain workers received the backing of the government of the Republic of Argentina, as well as UNESCO Brazil and the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (ABRAS).
In the context of international cooperation, the campaign was endorsed by the Organisation of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OIE).
AgroArt provides a space for the dissemination and integration of the artistic expressions of the Americas, emanating from the rich and varied diversity of its rural areas.
