Almost US $92 MIL in profit for C&W Barbados

Donald Austin - President of Cable & Wireless Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Cable & Wireless Barbados’ fiscal year ending March 2008 proved to be an excellent period for the telecommunication company which recorded close to US $92 million in after-tax profits.

President Donald Austin attributed the 14% increase in profits to an eight per cent increases in the company’s mobile customer base and a 43 per cent increase in its broadband customer base.

“The launch of the Multi-Service Access Nodes project has benefitted over 18,000 customers so far and has allowed for increased capacity to be provided for fixed line and broadband services to clients in several large catchment areas,” Austin reported.

He did note a decline in revenues from traditional services such as outgoing international calls but added that the over US $50 million spent on the upgrade and expansion of the company’s mobile GSM network, pre-paid platforms and metro Ethernet network in 2007 to 2008 as well as more than US $10 million spent on a Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN) project proved beneficial to both the company and its customers.

Besides the US $91.7 million in profit, the company also reported investing in initiatives to improve customer services and developing its e-Business plan that will allow customers to conduct a multiplicity of transactions online. ~~Adz:Right~~
