Gas prices drop for Dominicans

ROSEAU, Dominica-EFFECTIVE Oct. 24 residents of Dominica will begin seeing relief at the gas pump, as falling global prices of crude oil have prompted the Dominica Labour Party to cut petroleum prices and pass savings onto the consumer.

While motorists had previously been paying EC $14.32 for a gallon of gasoline, today’s reduction will see that price drop a substantial 16.1 % to EC $12.01.

Liquid petroleum cooking gas will also see a dramatic drop from EC $38.24 per twenty pound cylinder to a much more consumer friendly EC $34.17.

According to a release from the Labour Party Press Secretary, Sean Douglas, “the adjustment in prices is in keeping with Government’s policy to pass on the benefits of any decrease while shielding consumers from price increases and controlling inflation”.

Apart from cutting costs in correlation to international price drops, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to withhold the standard 3% customs service charge on all petroleum products and shield Dominicans from the worsening global economic situation.

The press release went on to say that “if the recent trend of lower fuel prices continues the Government will endeavour to pass on the benefits of any decrease to the consumer”.
