Mrs. Mavis Amory presents certificate to signify the first Stanley Amory Technical Scholorship to Mr. Mark Ceasar
The Social Security Board convened its Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Thursday 11th October 2007 at the conference room at the Foundation for National Development at Wellington Road in Basseterre. This year’s event was very special as it included two innovative developments in the life of Social Security’s efforts at providing assistance to bright and deserving students within the ambit of the Board’s scholarship offerings.

The ceremony was addressed by Hon. Sam Condor as well as Social Security Board Chairman Mr. Halva Hendrickson and Director Mrs. Sephlin Lawrence. Parents and guardians accompanied their scholarship-winning children and were actively involved in signing a Commitment Agreement which has become a feature of the High School Scholarship program.

Significant representation at the event was seen in the attendance of Education Officer Mrs. Blondell Franks as well as board members of Social Security. Other Social Security officers also present included Mr. Chesil Hamilton who chaired the proceedings, Mr. Walwyn Chiverton who delivered a prayer, Mrs. Trevere Elliott-Swanston who provided support for the distribution of certificates, and Mrs. Sonia Edwards who gave the Vote of Thanks.

A new scholarship in the field of Technical Vocational Studies was launched. This was complemented by the naming of the varied scholarship disciplines in honour of three persons who have made sterling contributions to Social Security in general and to the scholarship program in particular.

This was performed by the present Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee Ms. Eslyn Swanston. Meanwhile, university graduate Sandra Swanston was also presented with a certificate for her achievement at that level. This was performed by Mr. E. Manning M.B.E.

The first recipient of the new Stanley Amory Technical Scholarship was Mark Caesar. He was presented with his certificate by Mrs. Amory. It is expected that he will pursue studies in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration in Michigan, U. S. A. and (upon completion) will be in a position to impart his new knowledge by way of teaching at the Clarence F. Bryant College.
