CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - REPRESENTATIVES from Anguilla, Antigua, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Dominica, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and United States Virgin Islands (USVI) will vie for the 2008 Caribbean Culture Queen title on Friday July 25.
The contestants will make appearances in Island Wear, Promotional Speech, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview.
The Pageant, which is a privately ran venture, is featured on the 2008 Culturama line-up.
According to Committee Chairperson Renee Wilkinson, the Pageant is geared towards empowering women through talent and intelligence.
“The public can expect to see pageantry at its finest. Each year we try to raise the level of competition and this year is no different. I think this year’s Pageant will be the best one to date,” Wilkinson said.
Wilkinson added that while the preparatory process demanded a large amount of time, plans were falling together nicely. She also spoke of their advertising strategy for this year.
“The plans for the Pageant are progressing smoothly. The Pageant is being promoted in all the participating countries. We are focusing a lot on promotions this year within the Federation. Radio and television promos will be aired shortly in St. Kitts and Nevis, thus giving the public a glimpse of what the girls have to offer,” she said.
The show, which is in its third year, will be held at the Nevis Cultural Complex in Charlestown.
The Chairperson advised that the show’s profits would go towards educating residents of St. Kitts and Nevis attending university abroad.
She appealed to the general public to support the contestants and the organisers of the Pageant.
“To the general public, I would like to extend an invitation to the third annual Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant. Witness representatives from10 countries vie for the title as they compete in categories such as Island Wear, Swimwear, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview. You will even get the chance to vote for Miss Popularity. So bring your rags and flags and participate, make it great for Culturama 2k8,” Wilkinson said.
This is the first year that BVI, St. Vincent and St. Kitts will be participating. Last year’s Pageant was won by Leandra Lander of Dominica.
