Fourth suspect held in gas station robbery

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A fourth suspect was held yesterday afternoon (Apr. 23) in connection with the Texaco Gas Station armed robbery and is assisting the police with their investigations.

Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime Joseph Liburd informed SKNVibes that three suspects were arrested shortly after the incident occurred and a fourth was later taken into custody.

“Shortly after the crime was committed, police arrested three men and a fourth man was also taken into custody on suspicion. They were found with certain items which may be of evidential value to the police in their investigation into the robbery,” Liburd said.

The Texaco Gas Station at the corner of Walwyn Avenue and the island’s main road in the vicinity of the Joseph N France general Hospital was robbed by two masked men at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Friday, April 23.

Reports reaching this media house state that while two female employees were in the station’s office, the men entered the building and one of them held a gun to the back of one of the employee’s head as the other was about to deposit some cash into the register.

The employees were told not to move or they would be killed, and the unarmed perpetrator took the cash from the register and put it into a bag he had in his possession. He also took money from the employees’ aprons and both men then fled the scene, having collected some EC$400.

Further reports state that men, suspected to be the perpetrators, were seen running in an alley close to the St. Johnston Police Station. Officers from that station gave chase and were able to apprehend them in the vicinity of the West By-Pass Road with help from a number of public spirited citizens.

In congratulating the officers in the execution of their mandate, ACP Liburd said, “I would like to commend the officers for their swift response and also thank the public for assisting in whatever way in the investigations into the robbery. The police are therefore still seeking assistance from the public in this and other matters under investigation.”
