Masked gunmen rob O.D. Brisbane delivery truck

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE individuals suspected of committing a daring daylight robbery of a delivery truck are in police custody assisting with investigations.

Word reaching SKNVibes is that sometime this afternoon (Jul. 5), three armed, masked individuals converged upon an O.D. Brisbane delivery truck and robbed its two occupants of an undisclosed sum of money.

The truck, said to be orange in colour and bearing the logo, “Fruta” was in the Halfway Tree area at about 12:45 p.m. when the attack was launched.

Information surrounding the incident remains sketchy, and an interview with the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with responsibility for Operations, Joseph Richardson, did not offer much.

The ACP said he did not receive much information about the incident but informed that a robbery did take place in Halfway Tree and three persons were taken into custody. He also stated that police have begun their investigations into the crime.

He was unable to confirm ownership of the vehicle and whether the three men were armed with guns as the initial report suggested. However, shortly before press time, additional information from sources close to O.D. Brisbane confirmed that the delivery truck belongs to that company and the occupants were robbed of some EC$2 400.

This is the second delivery truck robbery in a matter of eight days. On Monday, June 28, at about 12:40 p.m., masked, armed gunmen robbed a Carib Brewery delivery truck in Ottleys Village.

A police release informed that the bandits escaped with an undisclosed sum of money and a cell phone. No one was injured during the attack and “though no arrest has been made, the police are in search of suspects and investigations into this matter are ongoing”.

Persons with information pertinent to this robbery are asked to contact the Old Road Police Station at 465-6250 or the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 465-2241 ext. 230. They are also reminded that information can be given on condition of anonymity and will be handled in confidentiality.
