Armed bandits rob Western Union

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO armed bandits this afternoon (Oct. 14) brazenly entered the Western Union outlet that adjoins TDC Airline Services on West Independence Square Street and robbed the cashier of an undisclosed sum of money.

     

    According to the Head of Criminal Investigation Department, Inspector Franklyn Belgrove, at about 3:30 p.m. police received a report that the Western Union outlet was being robbed.

     

    SKNVibes learnt that the police immediately responded but the bandits had already fled the scene on their arrival.

     

    Belgrove told this media house investigations revealed that two armed men entered the building, and while one of them pushed a female Diamond Security guard into a corner under threat of his firearm, the other robbed the cashier of a sum of paper currency and left a large quantity of coins untouched.

     

    He also informed that one of the perpetrators’ face was partly concealed by a bandana while the other was without mask.

     

    Investigations into this robbery are ongoing.

     

    This incident marks the third robbery of a financial agency to have taken place over a four-month period.

     

    In early July, the Royal Bank of Canada, Wellington Road Branch, was robbed by a group of armed, masked individuals. And at about 11:00 a.m. on August 26, two armed, masked men dressed in black robbed the Sandy Point Branch of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank of an undisclosed sum of money.

     

    Investigations into these robberies are also ongoing.
