By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the imminent departure by retirement of Commissioner Austin Williams from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), the Ministry of National Security is advertising for a suitable replacement.

A recent release stated that the Ministry is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position, which responsibilities include management of the RSCNPF, reporting to the Ministry of National Security and the implementation of a policing plan designed to enhance the safety and security of residents and citizens.

It further stated that the successful candidate would also undertake the general administration of the Force, execute the policy directives of the Ministry, oversee and direct the design of a crime fighting strategy and advise government on crime patterns/trends.

Applicants are advised that eligibility for the position include a degree in a relevant field such as security or criminology, professional qualifications in Security Management from recognised institutions, and a minimum of five years in positions of management of a law enforcement agency.

Applications must be accompanied by proof of nationality, curriculum vitae, reference to language proficiency and two references.

The deadline for applications is March 31, 2011 and they must be submitted to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of National Security, Basseterre, St. Kitts, or emailed to
    natsec@sisterisles.kn or faxed to 1(869)466-1896 or 1(869)465-5202.

For further information, interested individuals can call 1(869) 467-1155 or send an email to the above-mentioned internet address.

SKNVibes contacted the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Sam Condor, who declared that serving members of the Police Force are also invited to apply for the position.

Investigations have led this media house to conclude that there are a number of senior officers in the RSCNPF who have completed the relevant courses, held various managerial positions and possess the knowledge and experience that make them eligible to be appointed Commissioner of Police.

Four officers are now being the topic of hot debates, not only in the law enforcement agency but also at certain bars and on the streets of Basseterre.

The four officers are Deputy Commissioner Stafford Liburd, Assistant Commissioners Joseph Richardson and Ian Queeley and Superintendent Robert Liburd. These officers have all completed the International Command Programme, which qualifies anyone who has successfully completed it to be eligible for the highest office in most countries’ law enforcement agencies.
