The Police’s efforts to curb crime and violence, especially gun related incidents, took a positive turn as they confiscated two guns and a quantity of ammunition within 24 hours.

On Friday night last, September 14th, the Police stopped and searched Jermaine “Zomaine” Woodley, of Old Road, and confiscated a 9 mm pistol and ten rounds of ammunition. He was subsequently charged with the offences of “possession of a firearm” and “possession of ammunition.”

Another stop and search exercise on Saturday 15th, after a report was made, yielded another weapon and ammunition.

This time a .32 mm pistol, along with eight rounds of ammunition, was found in the motor car, P 4710, owned and driven at the time by Glenford “Pilly” Gumbs Jr., of Cayon.

As a result Gumbs Jr. and the other occupant of the car, Kimbell “Kim” Williams, a resident of Keys’ Village, were charged with the offences of “possession of a firearm” and “possession of ammunition.”

The first search was conducted in the Sandy Point area while the other took place in the Challegers’ area.

Interestingly, between the discovery of these two weapons and ammunition, a young man from the New Road area, aged 26, was shot in the leg while walking in the Prickley Pear Alley area, on Saturday morning, September 15th.

It is alleged that the young man was an innocent victim.

The Police continue to work assiduously to make a serious indentation into the number of incidents of crime and violence.
