    Man on trial for shooting at soldier

    Shawn ‘Handsome’ Phillip

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A three/man/nine/woman jury is expected to retire for deliberations sometime tomorrow to decide on the innocence or guilt of Shawn ‘Handsome’ Phillip who was charged with “shooting at with intent”.

     

    Phillip’s case began today and, according to the prosecution, he, on the night of Tuesday, March 27, 2007 sometime after 10:00, shot at Chelston Richardson who was at the time a member of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force attached to the Strike Force.

     

    The incident occurred in Newtown in the vicinity of Manchester Avenue. Richardson was the first witness called to give evidence in the case followed by Constable Detroit Henry, Sergeant James Sutton and Stewart Henry who is also an officer of the Security Forces.

     

    The prosecution team is being led by Rhonda Nisbett-Browne and Phillip is representing himself.   ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    When court resumes tomorrow, presiding judge, Justice Alfred Redhead will deliver a summation of the evidence and the jury will be sent off to deliberate.

     

    Court resumes at 9:00 a.m.
