PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad- IN the wake of the brutal killing of Swedish couple 62 year-old Anna Sundsvall and 73-year-old Ake Alsoon at their Bon Accord villa in Tobago, a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the murder.

Reportedly, the two elderly victims were found on Thursday morning (Oct. 9) with multiple chops about their bodies after residents reported hearing screams coming from the property. At the time of the discovery Sundsvall was already dead however Alsoon was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Scarborough Regional Hospital.

Local police speculate that the murder was theft-related after finding an emptied safe on the premises. Additionally, SKNVibes learnt that the property was robbed in December 2007.

Since then, a 32-year-old Crown Point man was held in connection with the murders after fitting witness descriptions of 5’10’’ height, stocky build and low haircut with a trimmed beard.

Police investigations continue via DNA testing, house-to-house interviews and recording statements from a wide cross section of witnesses. It is reported that initial inquiries revealed that several witnesses reported seeing the suspect in the vicinity of the villa around the time it is believed the incident occurred.

Shortly after news of the visitors’ murder hit the both local and international media, tourism officials as well as the Police Service Commission have assured members of the public that Tobago remains a safe tourist destination.

Tobago now shares the media spotlight with Antigua as that country’s tourism also took a blow following the murder of a visiting British newlywed couple in July. Both double murders share an eerie similarity as Catherine and Ben Mullany were also victims of a villa robbery as is speculated was the case in the Tobago homicides.
