PM Douglas expresses sympathy to family of H1N1 victim

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 28TH 2009 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has appealed for calm in light of Federation’s first death from the H1N1 virus.
 
Expressing sympathy to the family of the 28-year-old woman who died over the weekend, Dr. Douglas, who is also the Acting Minister of health in the absence of the Hon. Rupert Herbert, assured the public there is no need to panic.
 
“I extend sincere condolences of my myself, my Cabinet and the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to her family and friends.  The federation’s health authorities held a press conference on this matter yesterday (Monday). I wish to assure the public, however, that there is no need for panic,” said Dr. Douglas.
 
He advised residents to follow the advice of the World Health Organisation (WHO) “to wash hands thoroughly and often;  that we cover our mouths when coughing; that we stay at home and report flu-like symptoms to our doctors; that we go to the hospital if we experience weakness or difficulty breathing,” Dr. Douglas said during his weekly radio programme.
