Two vehicles collide at Old Road Bay

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE flow of traffic along the western corridor of the island’s main road was impeded last evening (Oct. 27) by the wreckage of a two-vehicle accident, which took place at the infamous Old Road Bay.

The incident took place at about 7:15. When SKNVibes arrived on the scene, a damaged motor jeep was observed on the mountain side of the road while an omnibus, H5378, was on the seaside of the road.

Investigations conducted by this media house revealed that both vehicles were travelling in an easterly direction when the incident occurred. Additional information suggests that the driver of the omnibus had attempted to overtake the motor jeep – which was being driven by Orville ‘Apple’ Crossley of Ponds Extension - resulting in it colliding with the front right portion of the jeep.

While the jeep was thrust into the base of the mountain, the omnibus, driven by David Debinson of Greenlands, - was reportedly thrown into a tailspin and landed in the middle of the road on its left side.

SKNVibes understands that the omnibus, which bears the words “De Prophet” across its front, is owned by ‘Junie’ Boland. It is also understood that there was one occupant of the bus in addition to the driver, and according to Head of the Traffic Department, Inspector Cromwell Henry, she was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital and subsequently discharged.

Both drivers escaped the ordeal unscathed. However, the vehicles were extensively damaged, with the omnibus sustaining more than the jeep.

Dozens of vehicles travelling from either direction were delayed for more than half an hour, as police officers worked expeditiously to relieve the congestion.

Inspector Henry told this media house that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
