Prime Minister Douglas, Premier Parry for OECS 50th Meeting

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 17TH 2009 – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry will be attending the 50th Meeting of the OECS Heads of Government in Anguilla.
 
The November 18th to 20th meeting will be held at the CuisinArt Resort and Spa in The Valley.
 
Other members of the delegation are Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Ministry, Ms. Angelica Elliott and Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Neon Farrell.
 
A packed agenda dealing with, among other issues, matters pertaining to the imminent establishment of the OECS Economic Union, the region’s strategic responses to the global economic crisis, and regional crime and security including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, CARICOM/Canada Trade Negotiations, WTO Ministerial and the Global Summitt on Climate Change in Copenhagen.
 
The OCES Prime Ministers, Premiers and Chief Ministers will also get an update on the Regional Social Safety Protection Strategy and the Stabilisation Programme.
 
Prime Minister Douglas will chair this historic gathering of OECS Heads of Government. Prime Minister Douglas will also address the opening ceremony on Wednesday evening.
 
The 50th Meeting of the OECS Authority is also expected to be a fitting send-off for the outgoing Chief Minister of the host country Anguilla, the Hon. Osbourne Fleming, who has announced plans to retire from active politics in 2010.
 
The OECS Authority will also welcome a new Head to the family in the person of the new Chief Minister of Montserrat, Hon. Reuben T. Meade.
 
The 50th Meeting of the OECS Authority promises to be the most covered OECS event so far, as Media personnel from all the OECS Member States will be in Anguilla for a Spokespersons Workshop on the OECS Economic Union, conveniently arranged to coincide with the event.
 
In addition, in solidarity with the event, at least 14 Radio Stations along the OECS News Link Network will join in a live simulcast of the opening ceremony of the historic OECS Authority
meeting on Wednesday November 18th in The Valley
