Nevis launches Culturama 2010 tomorrow

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TOMORROW (Jul. 22), Nevis will come alive with folklore culture and pageantry as the official launch and grand opening of Culturama 2010 will take place under the theme ‘Culturama 2K10! A Unique Cultural Blend’. 

     

    On the following day, there will be the Culturama ‘King of De Jungle’ Band Clash, which will feature Tax It with Antigua’s Claudette Peters and a local DJ competition.

     

    The ‘HOPE’ Nevis Children Carnival will take place on July 24 during the day while the TDC Senior Kaiso Semi Finals takes place later that evening at 8:00p.m.

     

    The first Pageant of the 2010 celebrations, Miss Culture Swimwear, will be held on the on Sunday, July 25 with eight contests vying for the title.

     

    They will be participating in three judged-segments – One-Piece Swimwear, Two-Piece Swimwear and Creative Wear, which will carry a collective total of 150 points. The Creative Wear segment would be in tribute to the sponsors and can be made from any material, including metal, paper and plastic.

     

    On Tuesday, July 27, nine contestants from around the Caribbean will be competing in the Miss Caribbean Culture Pageant while the Mr. and Ms. Talented Youth competition takes place on Thursday, July 29.

     

    Friday, July 30 will see International Night of the Stars, which will feature Mr. Vegas from Jamaica along with female dancehall sensations Tifa and Timberlee.

     

    On the following day, Kaiso comes alive again with the TDC Senior Kaiso Finals, while the Miss Culturama Pageant will be held on August 1. The Culturama Drag Race will also be held earlier that same day. 

     

    The Emancipation J’Ouvert jump up jam session through the streets of Charlestown is scheduled for August 2 and the festivities will end on the following day with the Cultural Street Parade and Last Lap. 

     

    Some of the other activities on the 2010 Culturama schedule of events include food fairs, horse races and dance parties.
