Daring gas station robbery foiled; alleged perp in custody

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A daring attempt to rob the Texaco Gas Station at Gillard’s Enterprises last evening was foiled and the alleged perpetrator is in police custody.

     

    Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, (ACP Crime) Joseph Liburd informed SKNVibes that sometime after 9:00 last evening (Sept. 2), an armed, masked individual went into Gillard’s gas station, located on the West Basseterre Bypass Road, with the intention of robbing business entity.

     

    ACP Liburd explained that a struggle ensued between the alleged bandit and another individual who was present at the place of business. He further explained that police officers were summoned to the scene and managed to subdue and arrest the alleged perpetrator who is said to be a 24-year-old of the Basseterre area.

     

    Unconfirmed reports reaching SKNVibes suggest that the perpetrator was armed with a cutlass. However, police confirmed that one individual, who was assisting the authorities in subduing the perpetrator, sustained an injury to his hand and was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

     

    At press time, the alleged perpetrator had not been charged with any offence; however, ACP Liburd informed that he would soon be and the charge is likely to be that of robbery”.

     

    Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
