Three charged in cruise ship tourists’ robbery

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE of the four individuals from Sandy Point, who were arrested in relation to the robbery of 17 cruise ship tourists on Sunday (Nov. 14), were charged for the offence.

Information reaching SKNVibes indicates that Devon ‘X Man’ Hodge, Grenville Rogers and Junior ‘Cue’ Sobratie, all of Sandy Point, were charged this afternoon (Nov. 18) for the robbery. However, the information did not state what the charge or charges were and how many were preferred against the trio.

This media learnt that the fourth suspect was not charged and is still being held pending further investigations. It also learnt that since their arrest, the four suspects were in custody at the Sandy Point Police Station.

When contacted, Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson told this media that no one has yet been charged for the unprecedented offence. He has however promised that he would inform the local media as soon as the police institute charges.

Early Tuesday morning (Nov. 16), police had made a breakthrough in the case when, during a joint operation with ranks from the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, a search conducted on homes, persons and vehicles in the Sandy Point area resulted in the arrest of the four men.

In addition to their arrest, a number of items were taken into police custody.

On Sunday, while the passengers were aboard a coaster tour bus on their way to visit the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a large branch from a tree was placed across the access road to impede the smooth flow of traffic.

The driver exited the tour bus to remove the branch, but while doing so two armed, masked men approached him and he ran from that area to a nearby gas station, from where he notified the police of the incident.

While he was away from the scene, the gunmen robbed the tourists of an undisclosed sum of money, cellular phones, jewellery and other personal items.

Since then, the unprecedented and callous act has resulted in the cancellation of two cruise ships’ calls to St. Kitts on Tuesday (Nov. 16) and yesterday.
