In a congratulatory message to Guyana's President, His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, the St. Kitts and Nevis leader said that the "re-election of the People's Progressive Party/Civic (PPC/C) for a fourth consecutive term in office is a glowing testimony of the confidence that the people of Guyana places in the leadership of the Party."

"In this spirit, we would also like to commend the people of the Republic of Guyana for the peaceful way in which they exercised their franchise," said Dr. Douglas, who told the Guyanese President that during his new term in office, "we hope to cement further the special relationship that the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has enjoyed with your country, one characterised by strong ties of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding."

Prime Minister Douglas pointing to the challenges that Guyana and its people have experienced in recent times, said: "Nevertheless we are confident that you will continue to strive for the continued development of your country and the betterment of your people, even as you do your part in fulfilling the grand objectives of regional rapprochement and unity."
