Prime Minister very supportive of agricultural exhibition

The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas says it is imperative that local small farmers capitalize on the opportunities afforded them to expand their horizons as the country seeks to squeeze more from the agricultural sector.
 
Prime Minister Douglas made the statement while the touring the annual Agricultural Fair, at Laguerite, on Thursday, April 26th.
 
He noted that the wide assortment of agricultural products at the expo was indicative of the efforts being made by local farmers to satisfy the local market, especially as the country has diverted from a sugar based economy, to one steeped in tourism.
 
Prime Minister Douglas also commended the Department of Agriculture or ensuring that the necessary technical and physical expertise were passed on to the local farmers, as they strive to maximize production.

The country's leader also said he was particularly impressed by the Taiwanese trade show display and expressed his profound gratitude to them for the invaluable contribution they have made to the development of the agricultural sector in the Federation.
 
















Dr. Douglas also was impressed with the technological display organized by the Taiwanese, and said it was an indicator that locals were trying to access such equipment for the improvement of local services.
 
Minister of Agriculture, Cooperatives and Fisheries, Hon. Cedric Liburd, said he was also impressed with the presentation of the various produce and it was evident that farmers were now emphasizing on the quality of products, especially as there is surplus that are exported into outside markets.
 
He noted that his government will continue to provide incentives to improve the abilities of the local farmers to meet the level of demand.
 
The fair was well attended by members of the public, visitors and a number of school students and their teachers.
 
This was the thirteenth annual Agricultural Exhibit.
