BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE in St. Kitts are hunting for a man who this afternoon assaulted a member of the Bicycle Patrol Unit of the Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police Force and ran away, even though three shots were fired after him.

News reaching SKNVibes states that shortly before 3:00 this afternoon the officer approached an unidentified male to conduct a search of his person. The man, at that time, was imbibing at one of the stalls in the vicinity of the Ferry Terminal.

This media house understands that the officer parked his bicycle, held on to one of the man’s hands and led him to an area close to the Bay Road Bus Terminal, where the man erupted into a burst of angry words over the intended search.

It is also understood that during the brief exchange of words, the man boxed the officer after he released his hand. However, another officer of the said Unit, who was nearby, went to his assistance and the man decided to run away.

The man began running east along the Bay Road with the officers hot on his heels. He then turned north into Lower Shear Lane and one of the officers fired three successive rounds from his service pistol, but the man turned west into Liverpool Row and then right into Market Street and disappeared from view.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes found that the two officers were reinforced by a squad from the Strike Force and, together, they combed the surrounding areas but their efforts were in vain.

Some individuals who claimed to have witness the shooting incident said the man was shot in the shoulder, but up to press time this information remained unconfirmed. A police source has however confirmed the assault and shooting incidents, but no word of injury.

The source also stated that the police are appealing to anyone who had witnessed the incident and knows the identity of the fugitive to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 465-2241 Ext. 220/230/236 or the Police Hotline 707.

Individuals can do so anonymously and all information received will be treated with the strictest confidence.
