PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – THE European Union (EU) has pledged US$ 7.7M in emergency food aid to Haiti.
According to the Associated Press (AP), the funds are meant to provide food for around one million people.
The aid will also be used to pay for public health measures, to provide clean and safe drinking water, sanitation and promote better hygiene.
The EU has already donated US$25.8M in humanitarian aid to Haiti this year following a series of devastating storms and hurricanes that resulted in over 800 deaths and destroyed thousands of homes and farms.
In a report released today (Nov. 28), the regional body revealed that about three million Haitians are facing acute food shortages and that 23 percent of the country's population suffers from malnutrition. |
