St. Kitts-Nevis opposition leader seeks to emulate Grenada's Thomas

AGENTS OF CHANGE! - Grenada's Prime Minister Hon Tillman Thomas (right in photo) greets leader of the St Kitts-Nevis opposition People's Action Movement in Basseterre.

Thomas, who defeated a fourth-term seeking Prime Minister in Grenada last July, is in Basseterre Thursday for a Heads of Government of the Eastern Caribbean Conference on the current economic challenges facing the sub-region.

Grant is seeking a first term as Prime Minister of the Federation, and says he is looking to emulate the Grenadian leader by stopping Prime Minister Denzil Douglas, who is also seeking a fourth term as Prime Minister in general elections due here by October, but which many predict will be held earlier.

Just before their very brief greeting session, Grant had told a packed press conference that the Douglas administration had failed in the way it has handled the country's soaring crime prime problem.

Grants comments came in the wake of a report in a British newspaper which described the Federation as "the murder capital of the world."

"Every thing we dream of and hope for; every economic challenge we seek to tackle; every vision we have of the future can be, and is being undermined by this troublesome crime problem," Grant told the press conference.

"Under the watch of  Denzil Douglas , we have gone from being one of the safest nation's on earth to what one British newspaper this past week called the murder capital of the world," he added.

The PAM leader complained: "This government has promised so much on fighting crime, and has delivered so little."

Grant declared: "Our elders deserve to live their retirement in peace and security. Our children must grow up in a safer society. This is one of the main motivations of the campaign the People's Action Movement would bring to the people this year. ~~Adz:Right~~
