CHARLESTOWN Nevis, Februry 4th 2011 - A determined Leshan Moore maintained his momentum and his cool as he was pushed right to the finish line by second placer Tavon Simmonds, to cement his name in the history books of the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School as the first winner of the first Kindergarten to Grade two boys cross country event.
The racers started in the vicinity of the Gingerland Secondary School and raced off at a really quick pelt, making a U turn in the area of ‘Brino’s Shop in Hull Ground and then heading back to the school.
As the two leaders of the large number of boys approached the finish line, the entire school population was screaming their lungs out as they took the final curb literally ‘neck and neck’. As they crossed the finish line, Leshan managed one quick stride ahead his nearest rival in Tavon and the spectators erupted into loud cheers.
The times are the best indicator as to the closeness of the finish. Leshan won in a time of 3: 17:18 and Tavon’s second place time was 3: 18: 25. Third placer Jareece Browne completed the race in a time of 3:32:50,
