Nevis Island Administration
On going work at the Gingerland Police Station
    Charlestown Nevis (September 4, 2006)
In a continual effort to satisfy the needs of the people of Nevis and in particular, Police Officers, officials of the Ministry of Public Works, recently paid a visit to the construction site at the Gingerland Police Station.

Junior Minister of Works, the Hon Carlisle Powell told the Government Press, "We are presently looking to see how quickly we can get the station finish so that the police men and women, who will be serving in the Gingerland area, will be able to move in and make use of the facility."

He noted that the police officers were quietly doing their work at the Community Centre at Hard Times since construction began earlier this year.  "We really want to have them back in improved facilities and I have been advised that hopefully well before Christmas, they will be able to move back into comfortable surroundings," said Mr. Powell.

According to the Junior Minister, the Gingerland Police Station had a good working relationship with the community of Gingerland and recalled his youthful days growing up between the police and where he learnt to play the game of domino.  He hoped that once the police officers return to their comfortable surroundings, the relationship between the community and the police would be improved.

He was accompanied by his Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ernie Stapleton, officials from the Public Works Department and Superintendent of Police, Mr. Joseph Liburd.  The party toured the entire structure.

~~Adz:Right~~Speaking to the Government Press, Superintendent Liburd said that he was pleased with the ongoing work at the station.  "When we look at the living quarters for the officers, it is quite adequate and the down stairs area we are trying to make it comfortable not only for the purpose of making report but to keep a good community police relationship," he said.

The Superintendent observed that the police officers were eagerly awaiting to be relocated to their new home from the community centre.  "The temporary place at the community centre is not adequate.  They are bearing it out and are ready to come back."

Mr. Liburd noted that although the police officers in the Gingerland area were giving of their best, he expects better quality from them when they return to a more comfortable environment.
