English is the official language spoken and is also the official language in which business is conducted on the island. However, a broken English (dialect) is quite common. In addition, proficiency in speaking and writing other languages, in particular, French and Spanish is encouraged. Interpreters are available for other major international languages.
The island has a 98% literacy level and its CXC and GCE results are among the highest in the Caribbean. With education up to the secondary level being free, you will note that the people of Nevis are well educated. This makes for an easily trainable work force that provides an attractive base for business and industry.
