PM, Min. Liburd’s application in defamation case dismissed

AN application filed by Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas and Minister Cedric Liburd to vacate court dates in defamation proceedings brought by People’s Action Movement (PAM) Deputy Chairman Eugene Hamilton was struck down yesterday (Nov. 19). The proceedings stemmed from a 1993 incident in which Hamilton alleges that Dr. Douglas and Liburd, while at public meetings, made comments about him which he believes to be of a defamatory nature.   [ Read More... ]

All public and private sector workers and employers, civil society groups and the general public, are hereby informed that Mr. Lenard Spencer Amory, Labour Commissioner, has proceeded on due vacation leave. National cricketer remanded for Molineux shooting

NATIONAL cricketer Leverette Taylor and Shawn Henry were yesterday (Nov. 19) remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison after being charged “on a warrant in the first instance for the offence of shooting at with intent”. The 24-year-old Taylor and Henry (early 20s) appeared yesterday before a city magistrate charged with the Tuesday night (Nov. 16) shooting at Akeem Edwards (20) of Brown Hill, Nevis.  [ Read More... ]

Marriott’s St. Kitts Beach Club to close sales office: 30 associates affected

ALMOST thirty (30) employees of the Marriott Vacation Club International (St. Kitts) will be sent packing by the end of the year as the international company has announced its intention to shut down the local sales office.Employees in this office were informed of this decision in a very brief meeting on Wednesday (Nov. 18) and were handed letters, informing that their employment will terminate effective January 1, 2010.   [ Read More... ]

Work of the Constituency Boundaries Commission continues

The resignation of the two Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) members on the Constituency Boundaries Commission (CBC) will not prevent the constitutionally-appointed body from concluding its work, prominent Caribbean lawyer, Mr. Anthony Astaphan said Thursday. Mr. Astaphan, a constitutional expert and advisor to the Federal Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, said the work of the Commission should not be derailed by the resignation of the two MP’s appointed by the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. DREAMGIRLS star, Oscar winner and award winning-singer Jennifer Hudson will now take up the role of Winnie Mandela, the former wife of South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela. Shadwell portion of Bypass Road to open in late November

THE portion of the West Basseterre Bypass Road between the western end of the airport runway and Shadwell will open later this month, resulting in major changes to the existing road network.
