BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A press release issued by the Ministry of National Security seeks to inform residents of St. Kitts where they could locate emergency shelters on the island in the event of a hurricance during the 2010 season.
A notice was also sent by the said Ministry concerning information on the progress of Hurricane earl and its expectations.
"The National Emergency Management Agency and the Nevis Disaster Management Department, continue to monitor the progress of Earl and provide the public with appropriate information. The attached refers," the notice reads.
It further states that in view of potential flooding, attention is being given to water courses, sand-bagging where necessary and other mitigation measures at the community and national levels.
The notice informed that the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in St. Kitts and the Vance Amory International Airport in Nevis were closed at 4:00 p.m. today (Aug. 29) and would re-open at 12:00 noon tomorrow.
