    Premier Vance Amory receives a gift from Ambassador of China on Taiwan His Excellency John Liu on behalf of Taiwanese President Chen Shui-Bian, as a token of friendship.
    CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (October 26, 2005) --
    His Excellency Mr John Liu, Ambassador at the Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan based in Basseterre, gave his country's firm commitment to the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) for a US$1million grant to be used for the construction of a cultural performing arts theatre and that the funds were already available to commence construction.
    The Ambassador gave the Taiwanese government's commitment when he paid a courtesy call on Premier Vance Amory at this Bath Hotel office in Nevis on Tuesday October 25, 2005. They also held discussions regarding a US$2million soft loan for the construction of a multi purpose centre.
     
    Premier Amory explained that the US$1million grant and the US$2million soft loan would finance a cultural performing arts theatre and a multi purpose centre which will be constructed in early 2006 on a two acre lot at Pinneys Estate.
     
    Mr Amory thanked the people and Government of Taiwan for their assistance to Nevis continued development and reiterated the high regard which the NIA held for the government and people of Taiwan in their thrust for independence.

    I want to reiterate the high regard which I and the members of the Administration hold your people and your government and especially yourself now the representative of your country. We want to say we certainly support all the aspirations of your people especially to be acknowledged as an independent country.  I have the greatest respect for the industry and the courage of your people and your love for the democratic process and the way in which your government has sort to develop the democratic process among your people.
     
    I really would like to see that friendship continue and I pledge the friendship of the people of Nevis through this Administration, and as you said, that our friendship would go on for ever and ever. Thank you so much for your commitment to supporting the development or our people, the Premier said.
     
    During his visit, Ambassador Liu presented Premier Amory with a gift on behalf of Taiwan President Chen Shui-Bian, who had visited St. Kitts from September 27-29, 2005 as a token of friendship. He said the President was unable to visit Nevis due to his short visit but had indicated his intension to visit the island in the future.
     
    Following the meeting, Ambassador Lui who was accompanied by Chancellor Mr. Franklin Chen toured the Agricultural Technical Mission at Cades Bay along with Mr. Amory, Chief  Cheng, shen-shun and Chief of the St. Kitts Mission Chief Toung, tong-shroung. The ambassador said the visit to the farm was to see how best the mission could help Nevis in the development of agriculture and also how they could combine agriculture with Nevis tourism industry.
