BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - COMING off of their victory at the recently-held Regional Arrow Soca Competition in Montserrat, duo LAX and KT are expecting more success on the regional and international scene.

This comes as they beat out a number of top performers in the sub-region to win the prestigious soca title over the weekend.

KT and LAX were the fan favourites during the 2016/2017 National Carnival Power Soca competition in St. Kitts -Nevis, which they won with their ‘Big Truck’ lyrics.

Speaking about their performance in Montserrat, KT told SKNVibes Entertainment that the competition was one of a higher standard than those held in the Federation, as a number of top performers in the sub-region competed.

“The victory was a good one, and it meant a lot to us because it is a regional title and you had some of best competitors. It means a lot to us that we could go there and capture the crown.”

The victory, according to KT, would create a number of opportunities that would give the duo more exposure and assistance as artistes.

Further, he expressed that taking part in the Montserrat competition gave him and his partner the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the different cultures and beats that were on show at the one-night affair.

“The win would now make us more recognised and the recognition should be on a higher level. It is just for us to keep pushing now. I think the two crowns (National Carnival and OECS title) give us surety now that we are officially getting somewhere.”

With the duo’s victory still sinking in, plans are afoot to compete at the upcoming Anguilla Wet Fete competition, which is that country’s soca competition to be held in July.

Moreover, KT, when asked to compare the levels of competition in St. Kitts-Nevis and Anguilla, pointed out that locally there have been continued improvements “year in, year out”.

“I definitely think that the quality of Soca music in St. Kitts and Nevis has improved. And each year it continues to get better and better.”

They now have their eyes set defending their local soca title and competing at the International Soca Monarch Competition in Trinidad and Tobago.

According to KT, they were disappointed having not been able to compete in that mega event last month, but would be making an effort to do so in 2018.

“Going to Trinidad gets really tight because December time is coming up to our Carnival, and when January comes is when you looking to get stuff done. We were not able to be in time this year, but definitely, we would be working towards that.”

The team received support from the Government in their efforts to travel to the competition.
