BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POPULAR and veteran photographer Leroy Willett of Willett’s Photo Studios, is commending Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley for the work he did in getting his daughter released from abduction.

Willet – who was present today (Apr. 5) at the Prime Minister’s press conference – explained that one of his daughters travelled to Antigua for training and while there, she – along with another young lady – were abducted.

“About a month ago, my daughter went to Antigua and she went for training. And she was abducted by an assailant…who pushed (her) and another young lady in a car and robbed them of all they had... She texted her mother and me and whoever…before her phone was taken away. And in an effort to get to the police in Antigua I became very frustrated.

Willett explained that in his frustration, he contacted Commissioner Queeley who made contact with the authorities in Antigua and “he got my daughter and her friend rescued”.

“I really want to say ‘thank you’ to Commissioner Queeley. We hear a lot of negatives but we don’t hear the positives because he stayed on the phone and he made certain that my daughter and her friend were rescued.

“The other thing which is important is that, had that happened in St. Kitts, it would have been all over social media and you would have known that somebody got abducted. If it was not my daughter, I would not have known that there was an abduction in Antigua. And Antigua would have come off as a really good country and a good place to visit.”

In addition to commending his daughter for remaining in Antigua to complete her course even after that unfortunate incident, Willett offered thanks on his and his daughter’s behalf to a number of Parliamentarians who have been instrumental in reaching out to her following the ordeal.

“I must give my daughter a lot of credence because had that been me, I would have wanted to come back home the same time. But she stayed in Antigua and she is still in Antigua being trained. And she said tell Shawn Richards ‘thank you’ and Mark Brantley, she says, who constantly talk to her and Dr. Denzil Douglas who also called her and spoke with her.”

The entrepreneur said his daughter was not harmed during the incident except for “some scratches from the rough treatment”.

She is expected to return to the Federation in a matter of days.
