BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation’s athletes competing on the opening morning of the 2017 CARIFTA Games in Curacao have suffered mixed fortunes.
Namibia Clavier failed to get out of the preliminary rounds of the Girls Under-18 400m, as she recorded a time of 59.46 seconds.
She finished outside of the top two in that race, thus failing to make the top eight overall that qualified for the Finals.
That time was only good enough to put her in 11th position, which also led to her failure as being one of the two fastest non-qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the bright spot of the day came when Jahnaza Francis made the Finals in the Boys version of that event.
Clocking a time 49.11 seconds, he was able to qualify for the Finals as one of the four fastest non-qualifiers.
His time was good enough for seventh place overall after four heats were completed.
However, Leroy Chapman did not taste the same success as he failed to made the Finals in the same category.
According to information coming out of Curacao, Chapman stopped the clock at 50.07 seconds running out of the second heat.
His time saw him occupying the 14th spot after all races were complete in the 400m.
Action continues with the evening session, where the likes of Dimetre Browne will be competing in the Finals of the Boys Under-18 High Jump.
Tajarie Arthurton and Royden Peets will be on the track in the Boys Under-18 100m, running at approximately 4:30 p.m., while Shanice Samantha Elliott will be competing in the Girls Under-20 100m at 4:50 p.m.
Francis will then return to the track this evening to compete in the Finals of the Boys U-18 400m.
