Woman killed, another injured in early morning shooting

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE on Nevis are investigating a shooting incident at Cotton Ground that has left one woman dead and another nursing injuries at the Alexandra Hospital.

    According to information reaching SKNVibes, the two women were returning home early this morning (Apr. 17) after a night out when the car in which they were travelling came under fire.

    Sources told SKNVibes that one of the women had earlier won a sum of money at a bingo game and they were trailed before the perpetrator(s) pounced on them.
     
    Sources also stated that the deceased is 28-year-old Morella Webbe and the injured woman is Sonia Grant (34), both of Cotton Ground.
     
    However, according to a police report, the incident occurred at about 3:45 a.m. and initial investigations revealed that the women were shot by an unknown assailant(s) while sitting in a parked car in the area. 

    It added that both women had received gunshot injuries and were taken to the Alexandra Hospital for treatment, but one of them died at the medical institution.

    Head of the Nevis Division, Superintendent Trevor Mills is calling on anyone who might have information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrator(s) to provide the police with same.

    “As we investigate this incident, we urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything to call  the Police. Together we can rid our communities of the senseless violence. Our Forensics Unit has canvassed the scene but your assistance coupled with what we do will be difference in solving these crimes.

    “Persons can assist the police in this crime or any other crime by calling any police station in the Federation, Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline, at 1-800-8477(TIPS) or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on their Smartphone to share the information.”

    Morella Webbe's death has taken to seven the number of homicides committed in the Federation for this year.
