CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – SIX individuals are currently in police custody on Nevis following the discovery of two firearms and a large quantity of ammunition, among other items.
According to a police report, a joint Police and Defence Force patrol was conducted yesterday (Apr. 20) in Rawlins Village and resulted in the discovery of one .357 Magnum Revolver and 10 matching rounds of ammunition, one MP11 9mm handgun and 22 rounds of matching ammunition, 19X7.62 rounds of ammunition, one mask, a small quantity of marijuana and a number of other items.
The illegal firearms, ammunition and other items were reportedly found in proximity to the six individuals, who were searched by police officers.
The report stated that the firearms would undergo Forensic Testing to determine their use in any unsolved gun-related incidents.
Head of the Nevis Division, Superintendent Trevor Mills had commended members of the patrol for the excellent job they did in the fight against crime.
“I commend the officers involved in this seizure. They saw a group of persons of interest and acting on training executed a search. Today we removed two illegal firearms from our communities...three so far this year in Nevis.”
Only recently there had been a spate of shooting incidents on Nevis, which resulted in the death of 23-year-old Randell Chapman of Rawlins Village and 28-year-old Morella Webbe of Cotton Ground, as well as gunshot injuries to 34-year-old Sonia Grant of Cotton Ground.
Investigations into those incidents as well as yesterday’s discovery are ongoing.
Yesterday’s find had taken to 11 the number of illegal firearms removed from the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis for this year.
