Post Cabinet Briefing for Monday, May 08, 2017

Cabinet meets with members of SIDF Board
By: (SKNIS), Press Release

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 12, 2017 (SKNIS)—Cabinet met on Monday, May 08, 2017 under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

    The Cabinet discussed several matters including the hypocrisy of the former Denzil Douglas regime over the matter of the Chinese citizens.  Cabinet noted that the Douglas regime:

    1. Provided citizenship to the Chinese under question since September 2013;

    2. Provided them with passports without the Country of origin field, thereby concealing their country of birth and that Interpol advised the Douglas regime that these persons are of questionable character;

    3. Interpol also advised the Douglas administration of the date, time and airline on which the suspects were to arrive into St Kitts and Nevis.  Yet Douglas did nothing to either prevent their arrival or to take them into custody;

    4. Douglas party was attempting to fool the country into believing that this problem originated with Team Unity.

    5. There is an ongoing active investigation into the Chinese under question.

    In the context of the foregoing Cabinet agreed that the Prime Minister should make a statement on the matter on Tuesday.

    Cabinet discussed developments in relation to the Christophe Harbour Project and Kittitian Hill.  The Board of SIDF updated Cabinet on certain matters of public policy and interest of importance to the government and fielded questions from members of the Cabinet.

    Cabinet commended the Governor General on becoming patron for the National Museum and for his support for preserving memories of our history.

    Cabinet is expected to resume on Friday, May 12, 2017.
