BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ANOTHER son of the soil has done the Federation proud, as local manufacturing executive Carol Evelyn was elected President of the Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce (CAIC).
The CAIC is an umbrella organisation for private sector representative bodies throughout the region and is aimed at facilitating the development, growth and competitive positioning of Caribbean businesses in the changing world economy.
A communiqué issued by the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) informed that Evelyn, who hails from Nevis but is currently the Plant Manager of API – Harowe Servo Controls Ltd. in Sandy Point, St. Kitts, was elected at the 54th Annual General Meeting of the CAIC held Friday (June 12) at the headquarters of the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association in Kingston, Jamaica.
With the election, Evelyn is now the second national of the Federation and the fourth business executive from the OECS to be elected President of the regional private sector organisation.
The executive currently serves as a Director of the Chamber and holds the post of Chairman of the Manufacturers’ Division. Additionally, he was CIC President for the 2002 to 2003 term.
The Chamber took the opportunity to applaud Evelyn for his achievement, stating, “The Board of Directors, members and staff of the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce heartily congratulate Mr. Evelyn on his election as President of the CAIC, and pledge the organisation’s fullest support to him in his new role.”
Also elected to the new CAIC Board was Francis Kennedy (Grace Kennedy & Company - Jamaica) as Secretary and Audley Walker (DFL Finance Limited - Trinidad) as Treasurer.
