Roadtown, Tortola - The Ebenezer Thomas Primary School, in collaboration with the Solid Waste Department, has embarked on a unique beautification initiative which is anticipated to be a constant reminder to its students to keep their playgrounds and class rooms litter-free.

The beautification project entails the creation of a mural of the department’s mascot, Bruce the Mongoose, along with the department’s message “Do the right thing and pitch your trash in the bin!” on the school’s playground.

During a brief presentation ceremony, the department’s Waste Education Officer, Ms. Nadia James-Lord commended the school for the initiative and informed the students that they were setting an example for other schools in the Territory regarding the types of beautification projects that could be implemented around their compounds.

Principal of the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School, Mrs. Sybil Hodge expressed her gratitude to the Solid Waste Department and explained that the initiative is designed to beautify the grounds and encourage the students to take responsibility for keeping the school clean.

The Solid Waste Department donated the supplies needed for the mural which will be painted by three art students from Class 4, under the supervision of Mr. Doron Hodge.

The Solid Waste Department is the government agency under the portfolio of the Ministry of Health and Social Development, which is responsible for the collection and disposal of community solid waste throughout the Territory.
