BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, August 3, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has made an impassioned appeal to persons who have information that could help curb criminal activities in the country to tell those near them in the community and especially churches if they felt more comfortable telling them rather than the police.

Dr Harris, who is also the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), one of the three parties in the Team Unity Administration, made the appeal on Sunday July 30 while attending a worship service at the Faith Tabernacle Church in Old Road.

At the invitation of Bishop Joseph Henville, Prime Minister Harris had led members of the National Executive and general membership of the Peoples Labour Party.

“Those of you who know where the guns are hidden, in the backyard, up in the mountain, I appeal to you in the interest of the country that we love, in order to reverse the tide of so many young people’s lives being snapped away from them when they have so much potential ahead of them, please speak out,” appealed Dr Harris.

The Prime Minister added: “You could find Sister Henville, you could find Bishop Henville, you could find any of the members sitting here to provide the information and I am sure they will know how not to call your name, so that you have no fear of reprisal. We want a blessed country where peace abounds - where peace abounds our children stand free. They must stand free of drugs and they must stand free of guns.”

Prime Minister Harris who was well received by the congregation talked of the importance of the old time religion which helped instil good values in children who would regularly attend Sunday school. He said that Bishop Henville’s church was one of the churches that could help the communities to get the message in terms of the word of God.

He urged every adult to help the children to avoid wrong, pointing out that those who have family members that are in drugs, that now was the time to say no and to insist with them it was no. He advised that they must find no hiding place of comfort when they are breaking the law, creating injury and harm to others in the community.

“We recognise that we are in government, and yet we have said repeatedly that Team Unity came in spite and despite of many odds, and we have accepted that we are there by the will of the people and by the grace of God,” noted Prime Minister Harris.

“And so we are happy to come time and time again to the churches to reaffirm and humble ourselves with recognition that we need a higher power to assist us. I want to encourage all those in the churches and in your church in particular who had prayed for the Team Unity not to cease in praying.”

The Prime Minister said that as the leader of the country he recognised that there were occasions when there would be difficult times, but observed that he had to be able to have a clear vision through himself for all, saying that he had recognised God had given him a special honour and a special privilege to serve.

“We are at a time in the life of the country when we have to remind ourselves as we remind the leaders that God will take care of us,” concluded Dr Harris. “But God would take care of us only if we are willing to abide with what we have put in the Constitution that St. Kitts and Nevis is a nation under God, committed to God and we have to not only proclaim it but build upon those values of godliness that can help secure the foundation.”
