BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, August 4, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- The newly elected Peoples Labour Party’s (PLP) Constituency Number Three (West Basseterre) Executive Branch has hit the ground running. The new executive was endorsed by the general membership on July 19, at a meeting held at the OOJJ’s Complex in Camps.

The Executive Branch Group, under the chairmanship of Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, has already staged a successful event that has been hailed by PLP’s National Political Leader and Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris. It is now readying itself to execute another event.

When on Saturday July 29 the PLP/PM’s Health Walk started at the Basseterre Fire Station and ended on the lawns of the lower West Farm Project in Constituency Number Three (West Basseterre), the tired participants were treated to a sumptuous breakfast that had been prepared by the home PLP Branch Executive.

“After that very successful breakfast where we had a lot of food left, the second event this PLP branch is preparing is a benefit breakfast,” said Mr Eugene Dias, the PLP Constituency Number Three Deputy Branch Chairman. “The purpose of this breakfast, which will be held on Saturday August 12, will be to raise funds that will be used in the constituency.”

Mr Dias added: “We want to look after Number Three. What we want to do is basically to go out in the community and assist those who need a helping hand. The breakfast will be held on the Best Buy parking lot, the lower section which belongs to the Government. We want to start at six o’clock in the morning and see if we could take it over into lunch.”

Preparations are in high gear, and on the evening of Wednesday August 2 the Branch Executive met at the Team Unity Headquarters on the corner of Cayon Street and Fort Street in Basseterre where the menu was arrived at and the logistics of holding such an event, which is expected to be attended by hundreds, were also worked out.

According to Branch Secretary Ms Crystal Boyles, the breakfast will include salt fish, sausages, eggs, johnny cakes, seasoning, coconut, eggplant fritters, and potato fritters. For fruits they will have star apple and melons while for drinks they will be serving ginger beer, lemonade punch, moringa and bush tea.

“This is the second activity by the newly elected Branch Executive,” Deputy Chairperson Mr Eugene Dias confirmed. “We will be going into the constituency and identifying people who might need a helping hand. It could be simple things like a wheelchair user who does not have a wheelchair ramp into his house. We want to do things that are going to make a significant difference to the quality of people’s lives.”

Mr Dias pointed out that they are yet to identify those who will end up being the beneficiaries of this fundraising breakfast, but as an executive branch he has promised that they will do it shortly.

“We are making an appeal to all people of goodwill to turn out to our breakfast and support us because all that we are doing is raising funds,” said Mr Dias. “As for monies that will be raised from this breakfast, we will turn it over into the community - we will be helping people in the community. Whatever it is that we can do, we are here to do as the Number Three PLP Executive Branch group.”

The preparation meeting on Wednesday August 2 evening was chaired by the PLP Constituency Number Three Branch Executive Chairperson, Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, who is also the Deputy National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party.

The fundraising breakfast has already received blessings from the Peoples Labour Party’s National Political Leader Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

Speaking at the end of the last PLP/PM’s Health Walk on Saturday July 29, at which the participants were treated to a healthy breakfast, Dr Harris, who is also the Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis said: “There is a second event which is being held by that group on the 12th of August - a Constituency Number Three Breakfast.”

He however added: “But before we get to the 12th we want to invite persons, all of the Unity supporters, to participate in an August 5th breakfast to be put on by the Peoples Labour Party in Unity. This will at the Shoreline Plaza by the Old Treasury Building in Basseterre and we will encourage as many people to come out and enjoy a very sumptuous and delicious breakfast.”
