BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DR. THOMSON FONTAINE, Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will be the featured speaker at the 27th annual St. Kitts and Nevis Private Sector Banquet.

A communiqué issued last week by the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) has provided some information on the role of the Dominican economist, who has risen through the ranks of the international financial institution to his current prestigious position.

“A national of Dominica, Dr. Fontaine’s role at the IMF includes the provision of economic policy advice to various country governments, including Afghanistan, Turkey, Vietnam and African countries such as Niger. He has also provided training to central bankers in the Middle East and the Caribbean.

“Dr. Fontaine is a prolific writer whose publications include research on economic growth issues, remittances and the diaspora. He has previously lectured at the University of the West Indies, Clemson University and Limestone College.”

The banquet, which brings together private sector representatives from across the Federation, is slated for Saturday, July 4 at the Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino. This year’s event will be jointly hosted by the CIC and the Foundation for National Development.

CIC Executive Director Wendy Phipps stated that Fontaine is the latest in a series of regional and international public and private sector leaders who have addressed the annual function. Additionally, she informed that Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas is expected to make a presentation, while CIC President Mark Wilkin will deliver the annual Private Sector Report.

Persons interested in registering for the banquet may do so by calling the Chamber at 465-2980 or via email at sknchamber@sisterisles.kn. Registration closes at noon on Wednesday, July 1.
