CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – MAGISTRATE Yasmin Clarke granted bail to two men who appeared before her in the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court On Tuesday (June 23) to answer cocaine-related charges.

Julian Chaderton of Matcman’s Village, Gingerland and Colin Saddler of Newtown, St. Kitts were granted bail to the tune of $10 000 each with two sureties and told to return to court on Tuesday, August 11.

The men were arrested on June 20 during a stop-and-search exercise conducted by police officers at Cades Bay. The officers discovered a quantity of cocaine while searching a black jeep in which the defendants were travelling.

Both men were charged with possession of cocaine and possession with intent to supply. Chaderton was also charged with obstruction.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Hasani Slack of Brick Kiln Village was fined $5 000 after pleading guilty to receiving stolen goods. He has six months to pay the fine or he will spend one month behind bars.

Slack, who was represented by Angela Cozier, was charged with receiving stolen goods and larceny. The larceny charges were however dropped.

The court heard that on April 28, 2009, between 8.30 and 9.00 pm. Marcus Pindar, a medical student of Brick Kiln, left his home for a party at Rumours Bar. After the party, he went to a friend’s house before leaving around 3.00 a.m. for his home. On reaching there, he noticed a window screen in his bedroom was out and a knife was lying on the bed. He checked the room and noticed his laptop was missing, along with three hats valued at US$30 each, a watch and a bag containing coins. He immediately reported the incident to the police.

Later that day, Pindar went to the ferry terminal where he saw a young man with one of the hats and the watch. He informed the Port Police and they contacted officers at the Charlestown Police Station, who arrived a short while after and arrested the defendant. Slack was taken into custody and the bag of coins along with the watch and hats were recovered.
